Sustainability & Earth observation
Ground Truth
Sustainability and Earth observation, from inside the work, not just commentary on it.
Newsletter
Space strategy, science communication, and fact-checks when evidence loses to noise. New posts every week or two, with shorter Notes in between.
4 sections1–2 weeks between posts
I check the claim before I share the take.
I've spent my career moving between physics, the space industry, and writing about both, and somewhere along the way I got tired of watching good evidence lose to confident-sounding noise.
This newsletter is me trying to be the person who reads the study, checks the source, and tells you what's actually there before adding my own opinion on top.
Some weeks that's a short, sharp take. Other times it's a proper deep dive, sourced properly, because the subject deserves it.
I've kept the writing loosely sectioned so you can find your way around.
Sustainability & Earth observation
Sustainability and Earth observation, from inside the work, not just commentary on it.
Science & astronomy
Science and astronomy, explained the way I wish more of it was explained to me.
Commercial space
What's actually happening in the commercial space sector, versus what's just hype.
Inclusion, media & fact-checks
Where I get more personal: inclusion in STEM, media criticism, and full fact-checks when a documentary, headline or claim gets the evidence wrong.
A physicist by training, explaining complicated things clearly.
I'm Ryan, a physicist who ended up in space sector marketing almost by accident, and stayed because I like the problem of explaining complicated, important things clearly. I run Impact Orbit Co., a small consultancy in the space and sustainability world, and I've spent years on the communications side of genuinely ambitious science.
Outside client work I put a lot of energy into neurodiversity and inclusion in STEM, and integrity in how the space sector talks about itself. This newsletter is where the space career, the physics background and the journalism instinct meet, along with a fairly stubborn refusal to let a bad claim go unchecked just because it was said with confidence.
