#1 - Commercial Opportunities for Human Spaceflight in Europe
As a new era of human spaceflight began with NASA’s first Commercial Crew launch on 27 May, this session looks at Europe’s contribution to human spaceflight and how commercial initiatives are enabling services to the International Space Station and beyond. Panellists: Dr Hilde Stenuit – ICE Cubes Business Developer, Space Applications Services Dr Hilde Stenuit is a seasoned research and team leader for Space Applications Services. She received her M.Sc. in Mathematics & Applied Physics and her Ph.D. in Plasma-Astrophysics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL). Since then she has worked with Space Applications Services. After working as operations specialist for International Space Station modules and spacecraft (ATV), she coordinated research operations on National Soyuz missions. She later supported ESA and spent more than a decade in ESA’s ISS Mission Science Office, doing scientific coordination and research planning for ISS experiments. She now helps create opportunities for commercial access to LEO through ICE Cubes, the first European commercial ISS service. Juergen Schlutz – Exploration Coordinator, German Aerospace Center (DLR) Juergen is an aerospace engineer and project manager with a strong background in systems and concurrent engineering for human space missions and space exploration. He combines his passion for space with a broad understanding of programme and technical aspects, intercultural experience, and communication and managerial skills. Alongside his work, he has initiated and managed educational and outreach activities such as Space Station Design Workshops, Yuri’s Night, and Space Generation Congresses. Yannick Jégo – Business Development & Sales Manager, Airbus Defence & Space Yannick has over 20 years of experience in the space business, starting as an engineer on the Ariane 4 launcher programme, then on the development of the Ariane 5 launcher and the manufacturing of cryo-engines. Today he leads sales of Airbus’s self-financed ISS external platform Bartolomeo, a pioneer in the commercialisation of the ISS.
